QUEBEC’S MOST NORTHERN RAILROAD TOWN | |

QUEBEC’S MOST NORTHERN RAILROAD TOWN—Can anybody tell me if there is any railroad in the province of Quebec reaching farther north than Lake St. John? Are there any settlements near there? Does anybody know anything about the country around Lake Mistaseini in the Northeast Territory?
The most northerly point in Quebec reached by rail is Roberval, on Lake St. John, The country about the lake is settled to some extent. There are steamers on the lake and I believe they ascend the rivers emptying into the lake from the North, for some distance. These rivers tap a fine trapping country, but no persons except old and seasoned woodsmen, having had plenty of experience in the North should attempt to go there. It looks easy on the map, but one would find many obstacles. One must be an expert canoe man to navigate the northern streams.
