Provisions-What provisions should be taken by four men on a two week trip?
Four men would require as much for two weeks as one man for eight weeks or 2 months. I can do no better than to give you the list I made for Camp and Trail Methods, of supplies for one man one month, and for four men two weeks you simply double the amount. The list follows: 25 lbs. Flour, 10 lbs. Corn Meal, 1.5 lbs. baking powder, 3 lbs. Salt, 10 lbs. Bacon, 1 lbs. lard, 2 to 3 lbs. butter, 12 lbs. beans, 4 lbs. split peas, 5 lbs. evaporated fruit (apples, apricots or peaches), 4 lbs. prunes, 5 lbs. sugar, 2 lbs. tea, 1 tin black pepper, a quart tin maple or other syrup and a bottle of pickles. A few cans condensed milk may be taken if wanted. This is the list exactly as it is given in the book. It seems like a lot of food, and may be more than is needed by some men, but it is based on my own appetite, which when doing work in the bush is of generous proportions. No allowance is made for game and fish, and the large quantity of salt was for use in salting fresh meat or curing skins, in case it is needed for such purposes.
