Primer Pocket
Primer pockets are the depression in the head of a brass case into which the primer is inserted. In commercial cases the primer is held into the primer pocket by friction, military cartridges tend to have the primer crimped into the primer pocket. It is necessary to remove the residual primer crimp when reloading military cases; many fine tools are available for this task.
