Point Blank Range-Using the .32 Smith and Wesson Long in the Smith and Wesson Perfected, what is the maximum range, point blank; barrel 3 ½ inches long? Can this model be used as a single action, and is the firing pin separate from the hammer? Do you think that the firing pin should be separate?
The Smith and Wesson people say that what they would call the point blank range is about twenty five yards. It is difficult to answer this point blank, and to do so your own definition of the term would have to be given. As you probably know, this pistol has no sight adjustment. Yes, it can be used as a single action by cocking with the thumb. All double action hammer revolvers can be so used. The firing pin is a part of the hammer, which is all right in a rim fire revolver. For a center fire I think that the best plan is to have the firing pin separate but pinned into the hammer.
