Following a few small improvements on the tube primer gun came the mushroom percussion cap gun. This gun was made with a nipple tube screwed into the touchhole as shown in Fig. 15. The percussion cap was a brass or copper tube with a flange on it, and the tube which had the fulminate powder in it was slipped into the touch-hole in the nipple, the flange preventing it from going in too far and permitting it to be extracted easily.
