The best and most convenient way I know is the following: Mix well with each quart of flour two teaspoonful’s of best grade baking powder, one teaspoonful of salt and one of sugar. Mix this up well before you start on your trip, and when you want to make pancakes, all that is needed is cold water to make a batter. Bake then over coals, and have the pan hot before you try to bake. Rub a little grease in the pan to keep the cakes from sticking; a small piece of bacon id good for a greaser. When air-bubbles appear all over the cakes and the edges for about a half-inch have changed color, turn them and bake the other side.
