Otter-When to Set Trap-How would you set traps for otter on a stream four miles long, about fifteen feet wide and very shallow at places, other places as much as four feet deep? There are several old beaver dams on the stream. Wouldn’t it be a good way to set at their runways where they go over the beaver dams? There are no slides.
Yes, I think the best places to set for otters is at the old beaver dams. If the trails are to be seen leading over the dam, there is no better place. If you can’t find the trails, make a little break in the dam so the water nearly all goes through one place and set the trap in the opening; then keep away from it until the otter comes.
