ORTOLAN (Emberiza hortulana). A small bird of the hunting and tribe, somewhat less than a lark. The bill, legs, and feet, are red, the wings varied with black and yellow; the neck, head, and belly, of an orange colour, and the brea&t yellow, with orange spots. It visits England in April and leaves it in September, and is in season during J uly and August. It is easily taken with a net, and is most delicious food.
