Opossum-Dirty Skins-Will you tell me what makes possum skins dirty looking and full of fat after skinning? Is it because they are caught too late? What will take the dirt off the skins?

Without seeing the skins I cannot say what is wrong. If caught too late, the skins will be veiny and of a bluish color. The fat can be and should be scraped off. If there is dirt on the fur, wash it with soap and lukewarm water, and let it dry off before putting on the stretching board. Don’t let any dirt get on the skin. When the animal is skinned, turn the pelt fur side out before laying it down.
