MUSKRAT TRAPPING UNDER ICE—How can you make a good set for muskrats when the water is frozen and the entrances to their holes are under the ice?
I used both traps and topper or brass wire snares fastened to stakes at the mouths of burrows. If the ice is dear, the burrows are easily found. Always, there are places where muskrats come out, at air- holes, at inlets and outlets, and traps set under these places, where the rats put their feet down to lift their heads up are good sets.
