The proper size trap to use for muskrats is a No. 1 or 0 (use the former as it takes a higher and better grip.) Go along the bank of a stream or pond where you can see where they have scratched or dug the hank for roots of grass or moss. Set trap under water near the bank and stake chain out in stream (this prevents them from twisting their toot off when caught, as they drown). Sprinkle sweet corn along edge of water and set trap close by or hang a piece of carrot above trap. This way is good because it catches them by the hind leg and thus prevents escape.
