Muskrats-How to Trap-Can you tell me know to trap muskrats where the water is not deep enough to drown them? I cannot find any signs where the water is deep. There are plenty of water grass, rushes and flags about the deep water. There may be muskrats there too, but I don’t see any signs. Would the No. 1 Victor trap be good to catch them with?
I think you will catch most of the rats at the nearest deep water, if you set traps there, with bait. I you don’t care to use bait, set traps without it, at the best signs, and fasten the end of the chain securely to a stone of eight or ten pounds, by tying with a strong cord. Lay this stone out in the water the full length of chain from the set. If the water is less than ten inches deep, it is best to make it deeper, by use of a hoe, or your hands, around the stone, and a short distance below. There is no better muskrat trap than the No. 1 Victor.
