Muskrat Musk-Useful as Scent-Is muskrat musk useful as a scent for other animals, and do you use the glands themselves, or the fluid from them?
Some trappers consider the musk of the muskrat very attractive to many fur bearing animals, besides muskrats, and I also believe that it sometimes attracts mink, coon and foxes, but it is not a powerful scent and I am sure will not attract any animals farther than a natural bait. I think it best to dry the glands and use them that way, but I have also used the fluid from the glands by pressing it out into a small bottle. It does not appear to have a strong odor when removed from the glands for some time.
