Muskrat-Their Bark-To settle a dispute, tell me what kind of a noise or bark a muskrat gives vent to.
The only sound I ever heard a muskrat make is a little bark, or rather a squeak. The only call thus during the running season, in early spring. The first time I heard this was one spring when I returned to my winter’s camp on the shore of a shallow lake where muskrats lived. It was dusk and the evening was warm. The ice was all gone from the lake. I could hear the muskrats calling to one another, but didn’t know what it was until I heard one coming down along the shore calling as he came; I stood still and was surprised when he swam by to see that it was a muskrat.
