The .25-20 cartridge for the Stevens and Winchester single shot rifles is loaded only with black powder or a load of low pressure smokeless giving about the same ballistics. Compared with the .25-20 repeater cartridge loaded with black powder there is practically no difference. The U.M.C. loading shows a slight difference in favor of the repeater cartridge, while the Winchester loads show a little more power for the single shot cartridge than for the other. But in the Marlin you can use the .25-20 high velocity smokeless cartridge and it is more powerful than either of the others but also less accurate.
