Moles-How Killed-How can moles be killed or kept out of ginseng gardens?
Cut a thin slice of fresh, lean beef into small bits after spreading strychnine on both sides and drop a piece into openings in the mole vein made by a small stick or the finger, laying a clod of earth over the opening. Go over an acre of ground nearest ginseng patch in fall and early spring and most of the moles will disappear and only a half-day’s time lost.
Moles are very beneficial in most places but in some a great nuisance. They are a nuisance in gardens and fresh planted fields of corn-a benefit in orchards where the trees are large and also in the lawn when the grubs are numerous enough to destroy sod. I have seen a double handful of the wings of the May beetle at the intersection of main veins.
