MODEL 27 FOR DEER—I want to buy a small caliber Marlin rifle but cannot decide between the .25-20 and the .32-20. Which would be the better caliber for deer and like game, and which model, lever or pump action? What would be the best sights? I prefer an open rear sight but not very fine.

I certainly would not recommend either of these calibers for such game, but if you intend to buy either, by all means choose the .32-20, and it is entirely too light an arm for deer hunting, though you can kill the deer if you have a favorable opportunity, and can put the bullet to the right place. The Model 27 would be my choice. For sights, I think you know better than I just what you want. Sheard is now putting out a three leaf sight that appears to be a dandy, and that made by Chas. Daniel might prove satisfactory.
