The best bait depends on many things, and there is no one thing that is better than all others for different mink have somewhat different tastes and the same mink may not always prefer the same food. For instance, one mink may travel a stream where fish are plenty and easily caught-they may be his regular food-and he may have developed a special liking for fish, or perhaps he is looking for a change in food, and a dead fish would not tempt him. One mink may be eager to get a piece of fresh rabbit, and another may be attracted to a piece of chicken. There are some places where mink take almost any kind of meat bait readily, and in other places they can not be decoyed with any bait, and the mink that may seem bery hungry at one time may, on his next visit, pass by all kinds of baits without stopping. I have used all the following successfully at times: small fish, rabbit, muskrat, chicken, small birds of various kinds, mice, squirrels, duck and crow.
