Maxim Silencer-I have a .22 Winchester Automatic and a Springfield .30. I have Silencers on both. The .22 is the best thing out for small game hunting, and I would not be without one for anything. In my locality there are plenty of muskrats, rabbits and squirrels, not to speak of crows. With the .22 Auto I can get more “rats” than anyone I know of, principally because of the advantage of being able to shoot quietly. Last spring I ran on a “rat” while paddling up a flooded brook. He did not see me and I got a bead on him and pulled. The canoe was unsteady and I missed and the bullet went into the bank back of him. I wasn’t more than twenty yards away. That rat, under ordinary circumstances, would have vanished. The noise of the bullet in the bank, however, was so much louder than the noise of the report of the gun that Mr. Rat simply turned and looked hard at the bank, while I got busy once more. The next shot he was mine. I wouldn’t have had that rat if it hadn’t been for the Maxim Silencer. Sometimes I use a Stevens 10 inch target pistol. My friend has a coupling on it so a Silencer can be attached, and we use my silencer for target practice. It is a lot of fun, because we shot in his room. How about that for quiet shooting?
On the .30 Springfield the silencer makes shooting a lot more enjoyable. The sharp earsplitting report is gone and all you have is the crackle of the bullet. Also most of the recoil is gone. I have got so I don’t want to shoot a Springfield “naked” any more. It’s a heap better with the ear splitter and the mule kick left out. I can shoot mine-that is, I can hold and pull just as perfect with a full service cartridge when I have the Silencer on as I can when I have an empty gun. To anyone who knows, this shows that the Silencer means.
