Marten-I would like to have you tell me of a good scent for marten, also a good trail scent. I have tried fish oil but without success.
I do not know of a really good scent for marten, but here may be such for I have not tried any of the prepared scents for that animal. Fish oil is used and recommended by many trappers, but judging by my own experience, it is of little value. I have taken a small piece of gunny sack, which when rolled up made a bunch about as large as a walnut, saturated it with fish oil and used it as a bait. When looking at these traps three days later I found where one marten had passed within three feed and another within five feet of traps so baited without appearing to notice it. I do not know of any good trail scent, but a drag of flesh, bloody meat will lead then to the traps.
