Marten-Description of Track-What does a marten track look like?
The marten goes by jumps like the mink and makes somewhat similar tracks, but large and farther apart. There are two imprints close together, one ahead and to one side of the other. The individual tracks are each about 1 1/2 inch long by 1 inch wide. The feed of the marten are heavily furred, therefore it does not show the toes separately like the mink, but in damp, packed snow, the heel pad and the ball of each toe will make clean imprints. Occasionally the marten walks like a skunk, when going under a log or bunch of brush, or when approaching a trap.
