MADSTONE—Where is the madstone found? If found in an animal, what animal and where? Also the care and preservation of such.
The madstone is, I believe, a superstition. It is something supposed to have the power of “drawing” the wounds caused by dogs suffering from hydrophobia and the venom of reptiles. I’ve read that it was the withered brain of a shark the jewel that falls from a toad head at midnight, and also a peculiar pebble found in Ireland.
