LOCATING GINSENG GARDENS—Which would be the bear place to raise ginseng and golden seal—an old charcoal bed or black ground formed by rotten sawdust?
I am not sure about it, but believe that soil enriched with rotten sawdust would be the best, as rotten wood is a natural fertilizer while charcoal dust is not. Remember that ginseng and golden seal do best under natural conditions. This means soil should be as near like where they grow wild as possible as well as shades, drainage, etc.
