Lighting Powder-Is it necessary to leave an air space between powder and bullet when reloading with Lightning smokeless rifle and Bullseye smokeless revolver powder?
I will say that I use Du Ponts Bullseye powder for reloading the 38 Special cartridge, full and mid-range loads and Lightning powder for reloading the .30 Springfield cartridge, mid-range loads. There should be air space between powder and bullet when using Bullseye powder as a full load will not fill the case.
In regard to Lightning powder, I think there should be a little air space, or in other words the bullet should never be seated so as to pack the powder. As I have used this powder for years for reloading rifle shells, I find it just as safe, when used intelligently, as black powder. Very light loads maybe used in reloading revolver cartridges, with excellent results for short range shooting.
