Lice-What can I use on a dog to kill lice and not injure the dog?
Take 2 lbs. of sulphur, 1 lb. of un-slaked lime and 2 gallons of water; slake the lime by pouring a small quantity of the water on it, then stir in the sulphur, adding the water on it, then stir in the sulphur, adding the water and stirring until of a creamy consistency, then pour on the remainder of the water and boil it down to one gallon. After it gets cold pour off the clear liquid and add enough cold water to this to make five quarts. Wash your dog thoroughly with this but don’t dry it off. In half an hour wash the dog well with warm water and soap and dry him well. Repeat this treatment in eight days to kill the lice that may have hatched out from the eggs that were not destroyed by the first application.
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” with lice. Disinfect dogs quarters thoroughly then use parasiticides on the dog. Red and white precipitate; the druggist will tell you how to use it, and carbolic acid, one part, water twenty parts.
