LASTING QUALITIES OF .25-20—I would like to have some advice regarding a small game rifle. I want one that I can use for hunting foxes, geese and jack rabbits, and still not so large that it would tear such game as ducks and muskrats too badly. How would the .25-St Repeater be, also the .32-20 and the .22 Marlin rim fire? Which is the most accurate and how many rounds of ammunition would one of these guns stand before being so worn as to affect the accuracy?
Of the rifles mentioned I would prefer the .25-29 of either Marlin or Winchester make and I believe you would find either arm perfectly satisfactory. All of the calibers mentioned are accurate at reasonable ranges and it is not likely that you will be able to detect a difference.
You will not be disappointed in the wearing qualities of the barrel of either rifle. Using lead bullets and black powder, if well taken care of, the rifles will last for anywhere from 15.000 to 30,000 rounds without impairing the accuracy.
