KILLING POWER OF 16 GAUGE
KILLING POWER OF 16 GAUGE—Will the 1 1/2 grade Ithaca shotgun, 16 gauge, with 26- inch barrel shoot and kill as far as the same gauge in 28 or 30 inch? Will the same grade in 12 gauge shoot and kill farther than the 16 gauge?
This question was forwarded to the Ithaca people who gave the following reply:
“Twenty six inch barrels on a 16 gauge gun will shoot just as close and just as hard as 28 or 30-inch, or even 32-inch barrels, provided the 26-inch barrels are bored the same as the longer barrels, and the same applies to 12 gauge guns. The 26- inch we believe to be the proper length for a 16 gauge gun, for the reason stated above and for the further reason that the gun is shorter, it is of course a little lighter, easier to carry around, you can pack it in a suitcase or anything you carry your clothes in. where you could not pack a longer gun. “Smokeless powder is cleaner and nicer to shoot, therefore when given our choice between smokeless and black powder, we choose the smokeless.”
