When I was in my teens I went ice fishing with a friend. The temperature was around minus forty. We split up to fish different parts of the lake. I approached an area that had been fished quite heavily and prepared to cut my hole with the ice chisel. As the chisel struck, the ice gave way and I fell in. I struggled for quite some time before I managed to get out using my ice chisel. I now carry my hunting knife where I can get at it easily if I ever have this happen to me again.
