Grasshoppers are frequently a good bait and a live hopper is better than a dead one. But if you hook them in the thorax they die almost immediately, and hooked in the abdomen they come off too easily. I find it pays to keep a spool of thread with me and when the fish will rise to nothing but hoppers I tie them on the hook with this. Just put a loop around the thorax, under the wings and ahead of the hind- legs. Run the hook through this loop under the hopper’s body.
