KEROSENE NOT RECOMMENDED—Is it a good plan to clean a firearm with kerosene?
If a gun-barrel is badly rusted, kerosene may be used, but its use is to be discouraged. Kerosene in itself will cause rust if it is not cleaned perfectly from the barrel, and this is difficult, as it seems to penetrate into the surface of the metal itself.
