IDEAL DOUBLE GUN—What is your ideal double gun for hunting geese and ducks?
Please tell me the length of barrels, choke, the kind of shells to use, presuming that you are loading them yourself with black or smokeless powder and heavy shot. I would choose an Ithaca hammerless gun, as it is bored for the closest possible shooting. I would prefer a 10 gauge if it were for this kind of shooting only, with 30-inch, full choked barrels, weight nine pounds. An ejector gun is preferable. My preference of loading is 28 grains of “Infallible” smokeless with one and one-quarter ounces of No. 2 shot for geese and the same charge of No. 4 for ducks, powder well wadded in high base shells, such as the Winchester “Leader.”
