Ice Fishing-Through-I would like to know how to fish through the ice for pickerel, perch, etc. What bait to use and what kind of lines, hooks, etc.
There are a number of different ways of fishing through the ice. Where fish are plenty, a little hut is hauled out on a hand-sled and put over a hole in the ice. The hole may be made with a large auger-six inch or larger is best. Wholes can be cut with an axe or pole if needed. Baits may be hellgrammites, pieces of meat, live bait, worms, grubs, etc. If fish are scarce, eight or ten or twenty lines set, with tip ups so that a bite makes a flag wave in the air. Read the laws carefully regarding open and closed winter fishing waters.
