HUNT, TRAP, FISH, BEST PLACES—Where is the best place or places in the west to hunt, trap and fish?
The best place to trap is near Yellowstone National Park, in Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. The best place for fish is northern Idaho and northwestern Wyoming, many trout having been caught weighing from twelve to fifteen and a half pounds. The best place to hunt is in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; there are thousands of elk, bear of all kinds, wolves, coyotes, deer, mountain sheep, ducks, geese, grouse, pheasants, prairie chickens and sage hens, while to trap there are beaver, otter, mink, marten, weasel, musk rat, badger, skunk; black, silver, cross, red and kilt fox; black brown and grizzly bear, wildcat, fisher, lynx, timber wolf, buffalo or brush wolf, prairie wolf or coyote, wolverine, mountain lion, and all of them in fair numbers except mountain lion, skunk and wolverine. This information was furnished by a guide living in Wyoming and due allowance should be made. As to game and fish localities mentioned are pretty good—as to fur bearing animals we presume much exaggerated.
