Hunting License-Will a man starting in New York state and traveling through the Pacific coast have to get a hunting license in each state through which he passes, whether carrying his rifle for protection alone or for shooting game?
If you are carrying the gun publicly, I think you would have to take out a hunting license in each state, for, in the eyes of the law, you would be hunting if you are traveling across the state and carrying a rifle. A rifle is seldom carried as a weapon of defense and is certainly not needed for that purpose as one can travel anywhere in the United States in perfect safety, without a gun, as far as wild animals are concerned, and while it is possible that one may meet rough characters if he is camping out, he is better off, as a rule, without a gun, even in such cases. Anyway a revolver is better as a defensive weapon, but it is doubtful whether it is wise to carry a concealed weapon when traveling.
Game Laws and Licenses-When the questions under this header were answered the laws were in effect at that time, but as the laws change somewhat each year and 1913 laws especially, some of the answers here given maybe incorrect.
