HOW TO TRAP—Will some person please tell me how to catch and bold rabbits in steel traps? I catch a few, but they twist their feet off. They are abundant and are giving me considerable trouble on my farm.
I would suggest setting the traps where they are, without bait, or if necessary use fruit or cabbage for bait. Wrap the jaws of the trap with cloth to prevent breaking their legs and fasten it to the top of a springy bush, stuck firmly in the ground, the top bent down and hooked under a crotched stake, so that it will spring up when the animal commences to struggle. I would also advise setting snares in the openings of fences as described in “Science of Trapping.”
