How can I re-blue the front sight of my rifle, which has worn bright?
A number of questions of this nature have been received and in answer I quote the following from the Marlin Firearms Company's catalogue as follows: "Sometimes small parts, as for instance a rear sight, the base of a front sight, a forearm tip or screw will have the blueing removed in a spot. If the piece is not too large the following simple method may be suggested to restore the color. Take the part and hold it where the color is removed in a gas flame until the color begins to appear, and almost reaches the desired shade; then remove the metal and dip in clear cold water. The work should of course be wiped clean and free from oil before putting in the flame."
