HORNS—How are horns polished and prepared for market?
Boil the horns until the pith will come out; scrape with steel or glass, with grain of horn, until all checks and rings are out and horn is smooth. Then use sandpaper, then boiled oil and pumice stone on a rag; finish with a dry rag and rotten stone. Fasten the horn where it will be solid; then you can use both hands, and do not be afraid to work, as the more you work the higher the polish. For deer feet use fine sandpaper first, then rotten stone and plenty of elbow grease.
