HOMESTEADING—I would like to have some information regarding homesteading, both in the United States and Canada. Which, in your opinion, is the best country and what parts do you think would be best for a young man to go to? I would also like to know who to write to for information regarding the homestead laws, etc. I would like to go to a place where there is good land and where fair hunting, fishing, and trapping may be had within a reasonable distance.

There are vacant lands that may be homesteaded in all of the western and many of the southern states. If you will buy a copy of our book, Vacant Government Lands, you will find a description of all such land, and the book also tells how to secure it and gives the addresses of the land offices, from which you can get maps and other information. It is for you to decide whether you want to locate in the United States or Canada. I would prefer Canada as in the United States there is less chance to get a good location now. If you prefer this country I would suggest some well watered region where irrigation is not necessary; for instance Wisconsin or Minnesota, or if you like the South, Arkansas or Texas. There are good places for hunting, fishing, and trapping in each of these states.
