The .3-2-40 Marlin is certainly a reliable arm. Many hunters would consider this caliber powerful enough for the game mentioned but I do not consider it a good gun for moose. For such game I advise the use of nothing less powerful than the .83 caliber Winchester, and would even prefer a more high-powered arm than this one.
