HANDY FOR TRAP LINE— I want to buy a Stevens pistol or pocket knife for use on the trap line, for getting bait and shooting animals in traps. I would also want to use it to shoot squirrels and rab bits at short range. A gun is always in the way when I am running my trap line. All things considered, what particular gun would you advise me to get?
It is difficult to answer a question like this, and what would suit me perfectly might not be liked by you. If you had not specified Stevens goods, I would recommend the Game Getter gun for your use, as you have both rifle and shotgun in one arm, and it is even capable of killing large game. The stock folds up and the whole gun goes into a holster convenient for carrying. I think you want a gun with a stock that may be shot from the shoulder, and the Stevens people make two models. Practically the only difference is in weight and length and you can take your choice, as they are both fine guns. I prefer the lighter, No. 42 “Reliable Pocket” model, which is merely the Diamond Model pistol with 00 inch barrel, a butt rap and detachable stock. The peep and globe sights are what you want.
