Gun Stock Finishing-Can you tell me how to finish gun stocks?
First, sand paper all smooth, then take some linseed oil, about one half teacupful, and to this add a small piece of rosin, about the size of an ordinary marble, then put it on the stove to boil it until it is quite dark. Take a piece of flannel and apply the oil to the stock, hot, and rub it in well. Let it stand a few days and then repeat the process, rubbing and polishing well this time. The rubbing is what gives it the gloss. Your stock will look like new and it will wear better than varnish.
