Gun Barrel Bluing-How can I blue gun barrels?

Remove the barrel and polish off all of the old finish with fine emery cloth. Then make a fire of hardwood in a 2 ½ or 3 foot box stove, and after it has burned down to a bed of coals, put an iron rod in the barrel to handle it by, spread the coals out evenly over the bottom and lay the barrel on them. Heat it almost red hot and them remove it and rub it well and evenly with an old woolen cloth until it is cool. It will have a bright color, equal to new, and cannot be removed without using a file or emery.
