FOR GRIZZLIES—Would a .35 W. C. F. or a .405 Winchester, Model 1895, be all right for grizzlies, elk, mountain lions, etc.? Which of the two is best for this game? How do they compare in killing qualities with the .33 and the .30 U. S. Rimless?
Both of these calibers are powerful and deadly, and they develop greater energy than any of the other modern rifles of American make. Either one will answer very well for the game mentioned, and moot hunters would consider them more powerful than necessary. This in itself is not a fault, but great power is usually accompanied by an objectionable recoil, and that lo the case with these two. Either of them will be found more deadly than the .33, because more powerful and at abort ranges they will put down the game as well as the .30 U. S., but for long range shooting there has not been any rifle yet brought out in the United States that has anything on the .30 U. S.
