Green Skins-Should green skins, just taken from the animal’s back and placed on stretching boards be salted to prevent the blue bottle flies form blowing them, and will fly blows injure the furs?
I have never had any trouble with flies blowing furs except with bear skins in late spring. As a rule it is too cold for flies after the skins become prime. Unless the furs dry very slowly there will be no danger, anyway the fly blow will not hurt it but here is danger from the fur becoming tainted. In such cases a little salt may be used, but as a rule it is not necessary and should not be used.
