Golden Rule for Outdoor Activities | |
|
With a few simple steps you can ensure that you come home no matter how bad it gets.
1. Tell someone, even if you are just going out to pick Fiddle Heads or Black Berries, always tell someone before you go:
Where are you going, get specific, the fastest way to get help if needed is to let someone know exactly where you are.
How long will you be gone, if people don't know when to expect you back they won't worry, tell them and then stick to it. If you say five then be back by five, at the very least call. It is also a good idea to give someone an "emergency" time, a time that if you have not returned, then it is time to call out the National Guard and Swat.
By what route are you going and returning, this really helps the searches to pinpoint your location.
By giving a loved one or a friend these small bits of information you can greatly increase your chances of surviving an emergency situation in the woods.
