GINSENG BED MULCH—Must the mulch be removed from ginseng beds before the plants come up? I use leaves for mulching.
No, the plants will come up through the decayed leaves the same as they do in the forest. If you have mulched heavily it will be well to remove the dry top leaves but not the rotten and wet leaves in under. The mulch is a great protection to the young plants, keeps the soil mellow and damp and discourages weed growth.
