German Fox Bait-Scent-Have any of the brothers ever used dried pears or cherries or quail, scented with “civet” for fox bait? An old German man told me that this was the bait used by the fox trappers of Germany and Switzerland. I think that the “civet” is the scent of the civet cat.
From what I understand of it, fox trapping is carried on in a rather crude manner in Germany and Switzerland. “Civet” may be the musk of the civet cat, but it should be remembered that the animal known by that name in this country is not the true civet cat, but a species of skunk.
