Fur Bearers – Heads and Claws on – Which furbearers do you have to leave the heads and claws on, and which ones can you cut them off and still get top price for them? It seems to me that most furs look better with the feet cut off. I sent some coyotes to a fur dealer with the feet cut off and they knocked them down half price.
The use of paws and claws in making up furs for mugs, etc., is increasing rapidly, and it is difficult to give advice on this matter. You would do well to find out from your fur-buyers their wishes in this matter. I question whether your fur dealer was fair with you in the matter of the coyotes, however. The reason unfair fur-buyers flourish is because shippers keep looking for more money for their furs; when a man receives a fair price for his shipment, he should stand by the one who pays the price. Stand by the buyers who play fair.
