Fox Trapping-Best Bait for
Fox Trapping-Best Bait for-I would like to know what kind of bait is best for use for trapping foxes.
The best bait will depend a little on the way you trap for the animals. The old-time “bed method” required lard cracklings; anyway the old-time trappers thought there was not other bait that could be used successfully for this set. It is good bait but is so attractive to dogs that I would not use it. For a certain water set which I use sometimes, the best bait is a small bird. But for general use all-around fox trapping, especially for the “hole set” I think there are no better baits than muskrat, skunk and opossum flesh, tainted. All baits are better for foxes if they are quite ancient and smell loudly; the fox prefers his game well ripened-an aristocratic fellow, you know-and when in this condition it will also call him farther. Poultry of all kinds makes good fox bait, in fact the fox is not particular what kind of meat he eats, but as said, he likes tainted better than fresh.
