I will give you two of my best methods for catching the fox.
First find a place in the woods where there is a fox run-way and follow it until you come to a small knoll or where there has been a tree turned out and rotted away; then as a fox most always leaps over a low obstacle, set your trap just under the snow on the opposite side, and as he jumps over he is quite likely to jump into one of your traps (it is best to set three).
Another good way is to take about four good traps, and go where there has been something killed (go to your local game butcher), and soak your traps in the blood. Then take a cheap chicken from the store and drag it along the trail until you come to where the trail goes through some bushes. Hang the chicken up by a wire around the neck; set your traps under the snow, or under the ground, and cover them with leaves or grass so that all looks natural. When the fox comes along he sees the chicken; he lies down on the ground for about five minutes and watches to see the chicken, then jumps for his meal, which he gets, but when he comes down you get him.
